Played for 13 years with Philadelphia and Detroit. Considered to be the best catcher of his era. He is ranked among the top five catchers of all time. He led Philadelphia to three straight pennants from 1929-1931. During those three years, he hit .331, .357, and .349, and averaged 129 games a season and 87 RBI. He was sold to Detroit in 1934 and led them to two straight pennants. His career was ended in 1937 when he was beaned in the head. He was knocked unconscious for 10 days with a fractured skull. He never batted again. In his 13 years, he hit over .300 nine times. He is one of the few catchers with a career batting average of aver .300. His was .320. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1947.
